Spats have made a comeback thanks to the Steampunk trend. Here are my 2 favorite Spat makers, Ashes & Empires ( the gothy ones) and  German designer, Maide (the Victorian ones). Spats are a great way to cover your cankle or disguise your fugliest shoes. I dig that. I was doing some intense research ( I googled ’spats’) and found that they are still worn in the military around the world. I also found that molten metal pourers wear spats to keep the hot, liquid metal off their feet. My intense research also found that Johnny Depp in Benny and Joon wore them, as well. With those three pieces of information, there’s a joke in there somewhere… I just can’t find it right now.

Some choices from ‘Irregular Choice’

Posted by roxybina on Aug 20, 2009 in awesome, bad ass, cool, hella fug, shoes

Here are Irregular Choice’s latest shoe collection. Here’s the breakdown:

First- yes (although, I would feel like a Redbull commercial)

Second- yes-  because it’s so ‘Snap!, Pow!, Kaboom!’ comic book style!

Third- YES, PLEASE because I would look like a Victorian that shredded a Dandy’s dress shirt for her shoes! Not very lady like! Love it!

Fourth- A firm, Hell to the NO! It looks like a Chewbacca paw. A Wookiee should not be a fashion example.

Be sure to check out Irregular Choice’s brand new cool website and their flagship store in New York City! Good times!

SteamPunk Jewelry

Posted by roxybina on Dec 5, 2008 in awesome, bad ass, jewelry, steampunk

Steampunk Trunk on Etsy makes these awesome pieces of jewelry for a very reasonable price, between $40-$60. Made from old watch gears and other gears, this is the epitome of recyclable fashion in a Victorian style. A while back, I had written an article in Buzzine.com on the growing trend of  Steampunk. You may view it here. Today, there are so many vendors on etsy offering the growing fashion trend. Go ahead an type in ’steampunk’  in the search box on etsy and begin your adventure back in time or shall I say to the future?

Gareth Pugh - I love you!

Posted by roxybina on Oct 7, 2008 in awesome, effed up, weird

As a fan of period pieces, especially of the Victorian age and Elizabethan age, British designer Gareth Pugh’s Spring 2009 collection was genius!  His collection featured  Elizabethan ruffs with a space age twist. The entire collection was mostly in white with dashes of black here and there. I am happy to see a designer take risks and design truly for the art and not just for whether you can wear it to the office. That being said , I would totally wear one of his dresses out on the town. Yes, I would look like a foolio who is not supposed to lick wounds and stitches, but who gives a fupe! I love it!

Betsey Johnson- Whimsical, as usual

Posted by roxybina on Oct 2, 2008 in betsey johnson

Betsey Johnson’s  Spring 2009 show was exactly what I think of when I think of Betsey Johnson- youthful, feminine, and whimsical. I really liked the use of ruffles and cage dresses. It was a cross between Victorian chic and pirate wear. With lots of innocent white, lace, bows and ruffles, Betsey Johnson strived for a pure look. Maybe, the Harajuku style is what most influenced her this season.  I’m not sure if they are wearable in some parts, but I would them- but then again, I would  wear anything that is a little out of the ordinary. Final Grade: A-
