awesome,
cool

Although he has done collaborations here and there, Jeremy Scott made a comeback after 7 years with this Fall 2010 collection that echoed NYC street wear with clever, tongue and cheek details. This collection reminded me a little of Moschino back in ‘The Nanny‘ days. That’s a good thing. The cardboard cut-outs are brilliant, except I would paste a picture of a tabloid sweetheart on the head of the silhouette. Why? Because it’s damn funny. I wonder how you sit in that…. how does that work? For that hanger dress, you need your own personal Farnsworth Bentley to carry that around for you… or if you’re trying to save some bucks in this crappy economy, I guess you could hang it from your ponytail. The main thing is Jeremy’s back.
Happy Persian New Year to all the Persian cats (and people)!

I am charmed to see that Moschino has come back from the routine and dreadful with more designs that are more, well, Moschino-like. Moschino is famous for the whimsical and tongue and cheek designs that make it distinct to a trained eye (I learned it from Miss Fine from the The Nanny!) Anyway, I fondly remember the magnificent boutique on Madison Ave in NYC. It was 3 floors of Moschino fantasy that involved oversized doors, twisting stairwells and colorful murals reminiscent of an upscale dollhouse. It closed over 15 years ago and I still remember the tears I shed after I trekked from Providence, RI on a hot, humid day on the Greyhound bus (I traveled in style, I know) to shop, learning they had up and disappeared. Pouf. And just like that- I went next door to Fauchon ( also closed now) and downed a pound of macaroons to silence my sorrows and whimpering. I was 18. Lucky for us, Moschino recently opened in the Meat Packing District of NYC- yay! But it’s decor is not what it was before- it’s much more conservative now.
* my eyes are welling up right now… Why? Because I missed the sale of the century when they closed. Damn you , Moschino!

moschino

At the Spring 2009 Moschino show, bows were ubiquitous, big ones, little ones, black ones and white ones. The show started with a monochromatic tone , but then quickly went into jewel tones of rose, emerald and topaz. My take on this collection was okay, nothing special, but not hideous. I miss the days of the over the top, at times campy, whimsical Moschino of the late 1990s; when pasta trimmed the edges of skirts and blouses, when milk cartons and boxing gloves were inspiration for a handbag, when the union jack was the theme of an entire show and yes, when the nanny named Fran wore Moschino every week on a show called ‘The Nanny’. I think it’s time Moschino went back to its roots when Franco was alive. A more fun, quirky and tongue and cheek Moschino. I just hope Franco Moschino isn’t rolling in his grave.
