So, I recently took a trip back to NYC for my other other work and decided to take photos of the stuff I love in NYC. I went to the Tim Burton exhibit at MOMA and was planning to take photos and video for you guys until some lady with the Bronx claws decided to stop me. Sorry, I tried, people. The first photo was all I could get. It was the weekend of the big blizzard which wasn’t actually that bad- but I didn’t have to drive , so maybe it was bad for everyone else? Duuno. Anyway, I always wanted to walk over the Brooklyn Bridge. Even though I’ve been to NYC 5, 460,197 times, the opportunity never came up- until now. I had to share with you the ‘Hell, yes’ building. There you go. The bakery above is Lady M- only the most deliscioussssss Mille Crepe is served there. It’s like 100 crepes stacked between a bevy of cream and then ‘creme bruleed’ on top- soooooo yum. I actually dream about this. And here’s a cheezy myspace -style photo of me taken my me to show you how I actually dress. Now it’s your turn to make fun of my outfit!

Tim Burton at MOMA!

The Museum of Modern Art is dedicating an entire exhibit of Tim Burton’s work for an entire 5 months! That means I (and any other Tim Burton fans) can prepare a trip to NYC just to see this momentous occasion! From Willy Wonka’s demented children ( my FAVORITE!) to the ‘Beetlejuice‘ striped scarf and art works, a lifetime of his work will be on display until April 26, 2010. Of course, ‘Alice in Wonderland’ will be released in March 2010 to add more excitement to the whole Tim Burton experience! What’s your favorite Tim Burton movie? Mine has got to be ‘Sweeney Todd‘ and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory‘.

Moschino- Spring 2010- Kitchy and Playful-Moschino’s back!

I am charmed to see that Moschino has come back from the routine and dreadful with more designs that are more, well,  Moschino-like. Moschino is famous for the whimsical and tongue and cheek designs that make it distinct to a trained eye (I learned it from Miss Fine from the The Nanny!) Anyway, I fondly remember the magnificent boutique on Madison Ave in NYC. It was 3 floors of Moschino fantasy that involved oversized doors, twisting stairwells and colorful murals reminiscent of an upscale dollhouse. It closed over 15 years ago and  I still remember the tears I shed after I trekked from Providence, RI on a hot, humid day on the Greyhound bus (I traveled in style, I know) to shop,  learning they had up and disappeared. Pouf. And just like that- I went next door to Fauchon ( also closed  now) and downed a pound of macaroons to silence my sorrows and whimpering. I was 18.  Lucky for us, Moschino recently opened in the Meat Packing District of NYC- yay! But it’s decor is not what it was before- it’s much more conservative now.

* my eyes are welling up right now… Why? Because I missed the sale of the century when they closed. Damn you , Moschino!

Fantastic Swedish Design

Helena Horstedt is a Sweden designer with major talent. All her clothes are handcrafted and made to order. Dripping in intricate folds and immense texture, Horstedt’s designs are understated , yet, dramatic. Although elegant black is her choice of color, it is anything but conventional. Hopefully, Horstedt can bring her magnificent designs to a store near you, but for now you must order through her website. Barney’s NYC should take note.

Lego Sunglasses!

Jean-Charles de Castelbajac has designed these customizable Lego sunglasses  to go with his Lego fashion show from a few seasons ago. Available in red, white and yellow, you can add Lego pieces and build your own ultimate Lego fashion accessory. These are great for men and women and of course, children with big heads. I bet you can build ’side blinders’ if you really wanted , like those horses in Central Park. Speaking of, if they only could see the cars whizzing by them… if I was a horse , I would freak! I would gallop away into the dense Central Park Forest and hide until it got dark. Then I would rip those side blinders off and go window shopping on Fifth Ave. (insert Sarah Jessica Parker joke here). But seriously, I feel for those horses.

These heels were NOT made for walking…

Check out these shoes! Freakshow! My personal fave is the second one in, I like how the heel dangles with no purpose. But I also like the green one , because there’s no heel and it looks like some kind of  Lance Burton magic trick.  When I was a young and naive Roxy, I used to go to NYC on a weekly basis for auditions and modeling jobs. I would wear the highest platform heels (thanks to Ginger Spice) on the bus, subway, etc. My mom would leave frantic messages on my phone like , ‘You went to NYC in those heels again! ‘ . She thought I would be alone and I’d trip and fall and hit my head and get amnesia, forget her and become a crack addict at the Port Authority. Possible, but not likely. Gotta love moms.

Food Shopping - a little more luxurious….

Posted by roxybina on Apr 22, 2009 in bleh, louis vuitton

luxury-shopping-tote-1jpg-560x371

These Louis Vuitton- inspired grocery bag totes are funny because:

A) Fashion people don’t eat- so why do they need a grocery tote?

B) They look like they are straight form Canal street.

C) I don’t like when people carry food in their handbag- it’s like eating in bed. Grody!

D) Inspires muggers to mug you, only to find cheese and apples in your bag.

E) This fall is the same category as having logos on your fingernails.

F) But at least, you’re not using a plastic bag!

Umm….I just ordered 5.

Great Jewelry for Cheap!

Posted by roxybina on Dec 12, 2008 in awesome, jewelry

Whenever, I visit NYC , I make sure I stop by Girl Props in Soho. With its zebra pattern facade, It’s  hard to miss on West Broadway and Prince Street. Here are a few of my favorite picks. I think I got into the comic book look after I went to Comic-Con in San Diego this past summer , not to mention the exhibit at The Met , ‘Superheroes- Fashion & Fantasy’. I wrote an article on it here. For an avid synth-pop fan like myself, the keyboard is perfect! I dig the tape , too… I used to make mixed tape all the time. You could even hear myself stopping the tape on the tape. I recorded music from everywhere, my friends’ tapes, the radio, off MTV. Then the CD came and fuped it all up. But in a way, the CD was cool because you could skip to your favorite song and rewind in one button. But, then the ipod came and that was a stroke of Genius! I don’t even listen to the radio or MTV anymore- it’s like I have MY world of music without having to wait through a god awful song to get to a better one! I like that.
