Gareth Pugh’s Spring 2010 collection was not rainbows, glitter, sunshine and happy things like that. It was dreary, morbid, witchy, gothic, and COOL! I’m not usually a big fan of death and the stuff surrounding death , but this collection had an element of texture, futuristic inspirations and grey. Grey and black work well together, in my opinion. Grey sort of breaks up the morbidity of black and reveals a chic piece. That is why the grey and black striped dress in the second photo is my favorite! It’s like Morticia gone Bergdorf’s! The ear feathers are definitely like Bjork here.  Love it!

PS- that dude above is hating this, right now.

Warrior Couture by Eva Nyìri

Posted by roxybina on Sep 24, 2009 in Viktor & Rolf, awesome, bad ass, cool

1764-2

Eva Nyíri, graduate of Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Hungary, designed these masterpieces evoking inspirations from Genghis Khan, Victor and Rolf , Gareth Pugh, and the Transformers. Imagine the conversation at that dinner table. Lots of grunts and stares. Anyway, I really like this collection because it is interchangeable and the silhouettes are to die for. Whoever wearing this on the street would have everyone crossing the street to the other side to avoid them because it looks so ominous! I especially love the neck brace. I mean, who needs to have peripheral vision? Who? Thought so

Lurch is in this season

Big shoulders, like GINORMOUS shoulders are what Ada Zanditon is into this season. She has interned for Alexander McQueen and Gareth Pugh, which just saved her two jokes at her expense. No, I’m kidding! She’s actually quite talented either way because not only are her designs fashion forward and edgy, but they are also made from organic fabrics and made in an environmentally sustainable way.  I would totally wear the top in the first photo for when I have a zit on my chin. I kinda wish it was in a faux bois fabric so it looks like a tree stump and I’m the chipmunk living inside. That would be cool. The shirt in the second photo is perfect for ladies with a HH bra size. That’s thoughtful since it’s so hard to find a nice shirt to house those bad boys. One thing though, you definitely can’t wear a shoulder bag, better go with a clutch.

Gareth Pugh- Fall 2009- Furry Spacemen

Posted by roxybina on Mar 26, 2009 in cool, weird

Gareth Pugh’s Fall 2009 collection was more toned down than his past collections. Very clean and modern with a touch of the bizarre, Pugh unveiled heavy  dresses  and coats in a futuristic foil finish. On the flipside, he also showed slim fitting pants and jackets with some patches of thin fur resembling, dare I say, a lady in waiting for her first wax session of the season? Pugh showed his collection the non-traditional way of a video presentation, like Victor & Rolf last season. I think the collection is intriguing enough for buyers to go to the showroom and see this up and coming designer’s wonderful work.

PS- I love the peek-a -boo jacket above- Perfect for days when you don’t want to wear lipstick or have a cold sore! (ewww!) kidding!) The dress is great for when Aunt Flo is visiting. Hide the bloat!

Gareth Pugh - I love you!

Posted by roxybina on Oct 7, 2008 in awesome, effed up, weird

As a fan of period pieces, especially of the Victorian age and Elizabethan age, British designer Gareth Pugh’s Spring 2009 collection was genius!  His collection featured  Elizabethan ruffs with a space age twist. The entire collection was mostly in white with dashes of black here and there. I am happy to see a designer take risks and design truly for the art and not just for whether you can wear it to the office. That being said , I would totally wear one of his dresses out on the town. Yes, I would look like a foolio who is not supposed to lick wounds and stitches, but who gives a fupe! I love it!
