Finally, something to do with all those toys……

British designer,  Ryan McElhinney , made this Grandfather clock that chimes every 15 minutes for a client in Dubai. All I can picture is some oil sheik playing with He-man and Skeletor figurines while a harem of ladies are rolling their eyes and snapping their gum. Anyway, this masterpiece is covered in white  (I’m surprised it’s not in gold) paint and takes six weeks to make. Check out Ryan’s site for more cool stuff he made with toys, including a floor lamp and picture frame. If I had some cash to burn, I would have him make a naked Barbie grandfather clock in pink. That would be stellar!!

Watch out Barbie!

Belgian fashion designer Anna Heylen had made miniature versions of her fashion lines for dolls back in 1993. She recently resurrected them and can be seen at her shop in Antwerp. You can read about why she does this …blah blah blah, here. I think it’s a great idea to show your clothes on dolls. I mean you save tons of money and you don’t have to deal with bitchy or late models. Score! Anyway, I threw in some dolls of Lady Gaga made by a devoted fan while we’re on the subject. And by devoted , I mean rabbit stew and flicking lamps.

Oh, that silly Dominatrix Barbie!

a-good-spanking high-tea hovering-gimp in-suspense

British artist (it seems it’s always the British) Nancy Farmer has designed a series of greeting cards with Barbie doing normal things with gimps, whips, leather and latex. You know, like, hanging out listening to music with a gimp as a cocktail hostess. Or Barbie having afternoon tea on some chick’s back. Or like chaining and beating people up. You know the usual crap. I wonder what holiday or occasion these greeting cards would be perfect for…. how about “Happy Birthday ” to my overpaid Dominatrix? Or “A little thank you note for taking care of my gimp while I went away”. Or “how about a Tea Party?! You bring the the tea, I’ll bring the table.. and gimp”. It’s pretty endless! On a side note, I dig Barbie’s goth makeup.

PS- These are the more tame photos I posted.

Ports 1961- Spring 2010- been caught stealing once, but now it’s twice….

This season shoplifter’s around the world can rejoice! Ports 1961 2010 Spring collection has designed coat dresses especially for this niche group. Winona Ryder must have just bought out the entire collection. The first photo is the worse one. It’s either maternity-wear and belongs in A Pea in the Pod or it’s designed for the stealth, sticky fingers! I think the only thing I ever stole were Barbie Crayons when I was 5. And some CD’s when I was 14. And  candy from Cumberland Farms, okay… I’ll stop there! One thing is for sure, you will be guilty as charged for wearing these heinous coats.

Eccentric Hats for Daring!

If you want a hat that really makes a statement, call on these two magnificent milliners, Stephen Jones and  Piers Atkinson. Each has their own unique sense of style- Jones with an elegant, vintage flair with a touch of quirk and  Atkinson with an outlandish, offbeat style that can be eccentric. Both are breathtaking, in my opinion, and deserve much success for their visionary take on covering a precarious, small space- the head. Having said that,  does this give me a license to put a nude Barbie on my head for the next soiree I attend? I think it does! Yessssss!

A Barbie Foosball Table!

Posted by roxybina on Aug 17, 2009 in awesome, bad ass, colette, cool

barby_foot3_18

Designer Chloé Ruchon is my new best friend! She designed this Barbie foosball table for the ladies (or Brüno) who love foosballing… (that sounds obscene). Anyway, There are only 9 of these in the world, so I’m sure it costs more than silicone implants! That would be funny if the the Barbies would ‘kick’ the ball with their boobs. That would be clever. Are they wearing skirts? Typical. I hope it comes with extra ‘Barbie ‘ hair- I can see hair flying while playing an emotional game.  To make it a really girlie, they should’ve rhinestoned the crap out of it! It’s nothing a hot glue gun can’t do….Watch for this awesome game in the window display of colette in Paris starting August 3rd.

The best art I’ve seen since Ray Caesar…..

So, my brother referred me to this site that called Moist Productions. They have the coolest art by former Toy designer, Jason Freeny. I love how you can see their insides, because they are like you and me! I think I saw something like this at Colette. I wonder if it’s the same dude….hmmm. I collect Be@rbricks, but the Quee are cute , too. Yeah, I switched from Barbie dolls to Be@rbricks overnight after I was running out of space in my house. I need to collect something, so might as well be something compact, right? Anyway, Check out Freeny’s site for more cool art that I was not able to capture on my computer.

Barbarian Barbie

barbiemargiela-0204092

Maison Martin Margiela, known for its FUG designs, has designed an outfit for Barbie for her 50th birthday that reminds me of a Barbarian Barbie. She wears a coat made of hair from other dolls that  stole Barbie’s street corner. No, I don’t know! I wasn’t there.

Anyway, Barbie gets made over by fashion’s favorites like Karl Lagerfeld, Jean-Paul Gaultier, and Calvin Klein and will be on display at Galeries Lafayette in Paris, France. The exhibition runs until April 25th, 2009. Be sure to check it out if you’re in those parts. Also, be sure to check out the amazing toy department there.

Barbie turns 50 at Colette

Posted by roxybina on Feb 16, 2009 in cute, vintage, vinyl toys

Barbie Turns 50 this year ! Yeah, she’s officially over the hill, but she still looks good. It’s all the ‘Plastic’ surgery… hahaha. Enough with my poor jokes, Colette has an exclusive collection of designers and artists collaborating with Barbie to celebrate her birthday, including Jeremy Scott and Dylan’s Candy Bar. I have collected 16 Barbies (the collectibles , not the kiddie Barbies)  over the past 10 years. My favorite is Madame Du Barbie, which is a Bob Mackie designed Marie Antoinette style dress. My other favorite is the lingerie Barbies or as I call them ‘Hussy Barbie’. But my Favorite out of all of them (although I don’t own one) is this

A Kidrobot Christmas

Posted by roxybina on Nov 28, 2008 in awesome, bad ass, cute, vinyl toys

The day after Thanksgiving is when I usually break out all the Christmas crap. We have a 7 ft. tall pink flocked Christmas tree that we decorate with naked Barbies, ostrich feathers, my baby mobile converted to ornaments,  Rhinestone jewelry and of course,  a crown fit for a king (not Burger king!) as the topper! (see below)Yes, it is a truly fupe Christmas tree but I LOVE it! Now I can add a DIY Munny ornament! So cool, for only $13. I can paint it, color it, rhine stone it, deco page it… whatever that suits my mood. For that handsome man in your life, you can get one of these cozy  kidrobot sweaters retailing for $300. A little steep , but well worth the coolness factor.

Visit Kidrobot for more cool stuff.
