Jean Paul Gaultier Haute Couture-Spring 2010- Montezuma’s Revenge?

A Mexican theme ran through every vein of this collection. Sombreros? Check. Cigars? Check. Mariachi band? Check. All that was missing was tequila with a worm in it (nastiness!). As much as I want to love the collection because I really love Gaultier’s vision, I can’t. The collection wasn’t elegant enough to be passed off as a couture collection. However, there were maybe three looks towards the end that were really fantastic — one of which was a white corseted, over-the hips jacket with a hoop skirt covered lightly with brown and yellow brown feathers and a white feather crown to match (third photo). I still believe in Gaultier, though. Maybe he should lay off the margaritas for now. There is always next season.

PS- Here is Gaultier’s take on cats in corsets… I know, so RANDOM!

Lebanese designer Ziad Ghanem is my new favorite designer! He’s like a hybrid of Jean-Paul Gaultier and Alexander McQueen, but more fupe. As you may know, I love fupe couture so,this fits the bill! The stegosaurus corset may be my favorite one out the bunch. Actually, the British bunny get-up  is pretty cool, too, because I love bunnies and the Brits! I have a feeling Lady Gaga would dig Ziad.  The chain ensemble for men is pretty dope. It would be killer if it were gold because I’m tacky like that. Ziad is definitely one to watch!

Dr.Martens x Jean-Paul Gaultier = Fan-friggin’-tastic!

Posted by roxybina on Nov 11, 2009 in awesome, bad ass, cool, jean paul gaultier, shoes

The original French Punk , Jean Paul Gaultier has teamed with British combat boot maker, Dr. Marten. With laser -cut diamond holes on each side of the boot, it now matters what socks you’ll be wearing. I would with go hot pink socks! These 14 hole Doc’s will run about 300 Euros, which is probably $5,000 with all the inflation and the ‘obnoxious American’ tax. You know Europe probably has an ‘Obnoxious American’ tax by now. It’s been lowered since Obama took over, though. Kidding! I wish they had these boots in the mid -nineties when I would actually wear these. It’s funny, the Doc’s were worn by the punk anarchists and the conservatives wore Keds. I tell you-when in doubt, look at the shoes.

Jean Paul Gaultier - Spring 2010- If the 1940s had Rap…

and OSH KOSH B’GOSH! Jean Paul Gaultier’s Spring 2010 collection was a mix of  ’corseted vintage glamour meets a chola(“My brows are dark, my lips are lined. Baby boy, I’m how a chola’s DEFINED! ) who wants to cut a b*tch’. Those satin overalls are kind of cool, though. I remember I used to wear those faded Guess overalls to high school on days when I had an exam or test. That front flap was perfect for hiding notes and a walkman! One day in History class I had to recite The Gettysburg Address by heart. Instead of memorizing it, I recorded it onto a Walkman(yeah, I’m ancient) at a slow speed so I could write it down during the test. So, some beeeotch in class ratted me out and so I had to say the address in front of the whole class while the tape was going in slooooow moootion. Hilarious! Luckily, the teacher was an old bat, so she just let it go and had a Werthers. Anyway, JPG can’t do wrong in my eyes! Two thumbs up!

Marc Jacobs- Spring 2010- Edgy and Elegant

Marc Jacob’s Spring 2010 collection was one of his most feminine to date. With touches of satin lingerie, sheer ruffles, and ethereal fabrics, Jacob’s was most likely inspired by the French’s love for the lady -like, yet avant -guarde.  I see hints of  vintage Jean Paul Gaultier and even Christian Dior’s last couture collection. Hopefully, the studs, black and the garish ’80s are buried where they belong now that Jacobs has ushered in a fresh, new, sophisticated  Spring collection.

Jean-Paul Gaultier- Fall 2009 Haute Couture- Innovative!

Posted by roxybina on Jul 27, 2009 in awesome, jean paul gaultier

Jean Paul Gaultier’s Haute Couture Collection was very innovative! Who wouldn’t want alligator overalls to get down and dirty in? I bet paint just rolls off like beads of water off a newly scotch guarded couch. No, kidding aside- Jean Paul Gaultier is one of my most favorite designers of all time. Thierry Mugler is on the list , too, which I think was an influence on Gaultier,  which is apparent in the two 3-dimensional  bodysuits above. Lady Gaga must be trying to whip this up on a Michael’s budget with aluminum foil and an orgami kit. By the way, is Jean Paul mowing down a Klondike Bar? I wonder what he would do for a Klondike Bar? He would  probably sing his international smash hit , ‘How to do zat!’ . I have the single on tape. I need to transfer that to my iPod for my listening and ‘making fun of’ pleasure.

Razor- STAT!

alena-akhmadullina-fall-2009-1 alena-akhmadullina-fall-2009-2 alena-akhmadullina-fall-2009-4

Russian Designer, Alena Akhmadullina incorporated Beyonce’s wigs into her Fall fashion 2009 collection. No , I don’t know if they are Beyonce’s , but they sure are hairy. The second photos is wrong in every way. If you’re going to do the hair trims on any piece of clothing, DO NOT put it anywhere near your groin/vajayjay area. Anywho-ha, Alena didn’t follow those heartfelt suggestions and look (above) what happened! Many designers have fallen for this trend that must die. Jean Paul Gaultier, Sonia Rykiel and Jean- Charles de Castel-Bajac are all guilty. Off with their… Hair?

Jean Paul Gaultier in Les Echos

Posted by roxybina on Apr 28, 2009 in jean paul gaultier

Mise en page 1

These are photos from Les Echos, a French financial magazine. I think it’s funny it’s a financial magazine because the ‘outfit’ (and I use that term loosely since it’s like 1/3 of an outfit (at least in the first photo)) probably cost more than the severance pay for most laid off bank employees.  That being said, I would totally wear the above out and about town, feather and all. I love Gaultier! I especially loved his costumes for ‘The Cook , The Thief, The Wife and his Lover’. I still can’t find that DVD in the states! Was it that strange?? My favorite character in the movie was the blonde little boy washing dishes and singing orphanage music.

Barbarian Barbie

Posted by roxybina on Apr 15, 2009 in hella fug, jean paul gaultier, karl lagerfeld, vintage, vinyl toys

barbiemargiela-0204092

Maison Martin Margiela, known for its FUG designs, has designed an outfit for Barbie for her 50th birthday that reminds me of a Barbarian Barbie. She wears a coat made of hair from other dolls that  stole Barbie’s street corner. No, I don’t know! I wasn’t there.

Anyway, Barbie gets made over by fashion’s favorites like Karl Lagerfeld, Jean-Paul Gaultier, and Calvin Klein and will be on display at Galeries Lafayette in Paris, France. The exhibition runs until April 25th, 2009. Be sure to check it out if you’re in those parts. Also, be sure to check out the amazing toy department there.

Jean Paul Gaultier 2009 Spring Couture- Stunning!

Posted by roxybina on Feb 9, 2009 in awesome, jean paul gaultier

Quintessential French Designer, Jean Paul Gaultier unveiled his Spring 2009 couture collection this past week. His influences were drawn from calligraphy and 80’s power suits. High waisted pants ruled the runway in classic black and ivory. Finishing the fantastic show was bride in black sheer and a bride in white sheer, giving a non-traditional choice to posh brides. In this time of economic turmoil, one wonders if it is couture is a sound investment. In this collection, The  L’enfant terrible of fashion proved that couture lives and it’s a matter of quality , not quantity in ones wardrobe. Couture is meant to last generations. Gaultier’s collection proved this right. Check out Style for more beautiful photos from the show.
