Something about this time of year makes me think of beautiful lanterns.
I think its such a great way to decorate your outdoor space while providing a calming light. It can create such a lovely atmosphere. They are really pretty inside too especially in a summer house. How lovely would they look on an old farmhouse distressed wood table? Pretty as a side table too.
Where would you place these lanterns in your home?

You can never go wrong with black.
I love black because you never have to worry too much about matching it to other items. You know how certain colors are really specific when decorating? I am working on a nursery for a client and we are using blue and I am having the hardest time making sure the blues match. I am leaning on using a lighter blue and a medium to darker blue just to break it up a bit. I guess I just don’t like when it looks like you tried to match the color but failed. Do you know what I mean? Now only if the client wanted the nursery in all black. That would be easier! :)
That’s okay though I am always up for a challenge!

Check out this beautiful and fabulous before and after from one of my new favorite blogs Mad Cake.

This was her first make over project and I think it came out so lovely! She received this shelf from her uncle and I can see why she would snatch it up. It definitely has charm even before the paint job. I really love the the pretty teal color she chose and how she decided to decorate it with picture frames and knickknacks. This definitely motivates me to go and paint a shelf. How about you?

Last week I came across this beautiful space from Peacock Feathers and was blown away by all the prettiness!

I commented on her blog and said it reminded me of something out of the movie Marie Antoinette. I would imagine that this is the space for woman to drink tea and gossip on a rainy afternoon. Those drapes are so dreamy and I love the mismatched chairs in soft blue and pink upholstery. I think the only thing I would want is a bigger and grander chandelier.
Wouldn’t this be a great place for a book club? I think I need one of these girl rooms! So fun!

I apologize for the late Weeks Best this week. I needed a little break yesterday and I am glad I did it because I feel tons better. This week I am loving tartan plaid, all shades of moody grays and a delectable collection of berry tones. Enjoy!

I just came across this really wonderful company called Spruce (love that name!) from the Modish blog and I just had to post about them here too! Spruce takes beautiful vintage furniture and makes them fashionable and stylish by reupholstering them with gorgeous fabric and cleaning up the wood and staining or painting them. These are definitely not your grandmothers chairs!

I love this photo for so many reasons. :)

I love that the fabric has a vintage yet modern feel to it.

I could not have picked out a better fabric for those dining chairs myself. Perfect selection!

Their pillows are even fabulous!

Loving this bold pattern and I think it would be great in the right space.
I feel like I want to go out and re purpose furniture now. So inspiring!

One of my most favorite blogs to read is Rachel Ashwell’s from Shabby Chic. I love reading her posts. They are always so heartfelt and real. This week she announced the reopening of the Santa Monica store. Things are looking up!

I am so in love with these skirted shades. I love it over the small round distressed wood table. Really quite beautiful!!

She is so fabulous. I mean look at those pillows! I want one of each please. :) I may just need to go out and get this book. I am sure it is filled with many lovelies.

I have saved this collage that Tamaranda had done awhile back ago and I have wanted to blog about it for awhile now.

I really enjoyed reading her post about how black and white can add instant drama and sophistication to a space and working with contrast is easy when using these two hues. I definitely agree but what I took from her collage was the motifs on the artwork and fabric that she used. Peacock feathers and deers. I wonder if these motifs will still be in style by the beginning of next year. I wonder what new popular motifs will be out. Any ideas or predictions?

Loving these neutral and soft blue spaces. I think it could be pretty to have a house where there were soft browns, beiges and white in one room and the adjacent room had pretty blue walls with natural woods and dry branches. I think there could be a really nice flow and bring warmth and balancing it with cool. I didn’t realize this until I had these rooms together lined up like this.
How do you like to create a flow between spaces? Do you have any tips to share?
