Happy St. Patricks Day + Interior Spaces: Showcase Portlaoise

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

Hope everyone is having a great St Patrick’s Day and eating lots of corn beef and cabbage! We went over to my Moms the other day and she made it deliciously! Speaking of the Irish I took a quiz on Facebook called  “Where should you live?” quiz and it chose Ireland! I thought I put in I wanted sunny weather but I guess my liking of green and the hillside overwrote it. It’s funny because when Ryan and I were in Portland, OR thinking of places to move to, Ireland was on our list and we did a lot of research. It doesnt seem very easy to get citizenship and if you have a pet it can be a pretty big ordeal. I remember reading that in order to get a job you have to wait for like a month to respond to a job ad in the paper so the local people can possibly get it first. Crazy huh?

This quiz brought back a dream I once had of doing Interior Design in Ireland and so I decided to search for Interior Designer’s in Dublin and I came across the beautiful portfolio of RK Designs. My favorite space in their portfolio was the Showhouse in Portlaoise, Ireland. I am in love with that dining room and that bedroom is so divine! You can see more of their work HERE.

I am going to Ireland in a month and I want to check out the interiors. Anybody have any suggestions beside the Guinness Factory? :)

Room of the Day: Romantic Gold & Brown Bedroom

Friday, February 27th, 2009

I normally don’t like gold frames but it really works in this romantic bedroom interior. I also love that the bed is placed more in the middle of the room and not against a wall. If you are one of the fortunate few who have a huge bedroom, than the bed placed in the middle of the room can look really lovely when done right. I also really  enjoy the natural feel of the bedding and realistic decor on the side table like the tea cup and table picture frames. It doesn’t feel too commercialized although it does look like it’s taken from a Ralph Lauren catalog. What do you think?

Room by Color: Black and White Bedrooms

Tuesday, October 14th, 2008

I thought that showing some black and white bedroom interiors would fit the mood for the upcoming holiday of Halloween. These rooms aren’t really spooky or scary but they are pretty great and I don’t recommend painting all your walls black for Halloween but an accent wall could look pretty cool if done right like some of the ones below. Some might feel that an all black and white interior can seem cold and uninviting so that’s why I like the idea of adding a little splash of yellow or beige to warm it up a bit. Adding a natural colored rug or rich woods can also do the trick.

Interior Spaces: Dolce and Gabbana Gold Restaurant

Friday, October 10th, 2008

Take it from Dolce & Gabbana to design a glam gold restaurant. Located in Milan is this opulent restaurant that is divided between a cafe and a bistro which has plenty of reflective surfaces including brass and gilded glass to give a feeling of luxury. You may need to wear sunglasses with all this shine. The Architects Ferruccio Laviani & Gianmaria Torno added warmth by incorporating pink and grey arabesque patterned marble and oak parquet.
