Weeks Best! October 25th-30th

Friday, October 30th, 2009

I am really digging on these super dark spaces and pretty berry toned interiors this week.

That apple arrangement is absolute genius. It would be so pretty to do that for an autumn party get together and the best part is you can eat the apples afterward!

Thanks for stopping by this week and have a Happy Halloween tomorrow!

Room by Color: Orange & Black

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

I think its about time I pulled out my favorite black and orange interiors!

I think these are great examples of orange and black interiors that can work all year round. They have a very elegant yet fun feel to them. I have to say that I tend to stay away from this color scheme for fear that it will look too Halloweeney but I think these inspirational images gives me some great ideas and helps me to work around the holiday stereotype. For instance I could use a charcoal black and a more coral red orange rather than a pure orange or black. I also like the use of gold like in the mirror frames and in accent furniture pieces.

I think this look is definitely wearing on me. How about you?

Elements of Color: Black Decor

Monday, September 28th, 2009

You can never go wrong with black.

I love black because you never have to worry too much about matching it to other items. You know how certain colors are really specific when decorating? I am working on a nursery for a client and we are using blue and I am having the hardest time making sure the blues match. I am leaning on using a lighter blue and a medium to darker blue just to break it up a bit. I guess I just don’t like when it looks like you tried to match the color but failed. Do you know what I mean? Now only if the client wanted the nursery in all black. That would be easier! :)

That’s okay though I am always up for a challenge!

Thinking About New Motifs

Monday, September 14th, 2009

I have saved this collage that Tamaranda had done awhile back ago and I have wanted to blog about it for awhile now.

tamaranda

I really enjoyed reading her post about how black and white can add instant drama and sophistication to a space and working with contrast is easy when using these two hues. I definitely agree but what I took from her collage was the motifs on the artwork and fabric that she used. Peacock feathers and deers. I wonder if these motifs will still be in style by the beginning of next year. I wonder what new popular motifs will be out. Any ideas or predictions?

Sonia from Ivory Pearl Interiors not only leaves so many sweet comments on my blog but she also has beautiful gorgeous french and modern furniture on her website. I mean seriously look at all of this eye candy! Silver butterfly cabinets, black velvet wing chairs, french ornate headboards, and twiggy mannequins!

Even though they are based out of London doesn’t mean you can’t get these lovely items in the US. They ship internationally. They are also giving dwellings and decor readers 15% off so if you like what you see I would head on over there. Enter the promotional code LUXE001. Enjoy!

Interior Spaces: Ravn Our Apartment

Friday, January 9th, 2009

This is a Norwegian girls home, who broke up with her boyfriend and decided to redo her apartment. I guess that’s a good enough reason for me to design a space with black walls. I have always been against painting spaces in black because they are so dark and goth like that I find it quite depressing. For some reason though this space is really neat to me and I think it has something to do with the mix of modern and traditional elements. I also love her one fun pink ottoman that immediately draws attention against all the black. So what do you guys think. Could you live here?
