Weeks Best! October 25th-30th

Friday, October 30th, 2009

I am really digging on these super dark spaces and pretty berry toned interiors this week.

That apple arrangement is absolute genius. It would be so pretty to do that for an autumn party get together and the best part is you can eat the apples afterward!

Thanks for stopping by this week and have a Happy Halloween tomorrow!

I apologize for the late Weeks Best this week. I needed a little break yesterday and I am glad I did it because I feel tons better. This week I am loving tartan plaid, all shades of moody grays and a delectable collection of berry tones. Enjoy!

Weeks Best! September 6th-11th

Friday, September 11th, 2009

Loving these neutral and soft blue spaces. I think it could be pretty to have a house where there were soft browns, beiges and white in one room and the adjacent room had pretty blue walls with natural woods and dry branches. I think there could be a really nice flow and bring warmth and balancing it with cool. I didn’t realize this until I had these rooms together lined up like this.

How do you like to create a flow between spaces? Do you have any tips to share?

Inspiration Board: Forest Fairytale Bathroom

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009

It was love at first sight when I saw this inspiration photo. A girl cannot resist that much tulle. I instantly knew I wanted to design a bathroom around it because I thought the ruffle shower curtain from India Rose would be perfect. I then of course picked up her yellow sweater color and decided towels would be about right and why not add a moss green bath towel to complete the feel? I also wanted to incorporate a vertical tree print that would hang over the toilet that had similar colors. I don’t know if I would design this for myself but it’s fun and whimsical which I love.

The Johnson’s New Bathroom

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

My dear friend Desia just sent me photos of her finished design of this cool and fun bathroom. Desia and I started college together and graduated together and I am so happy to see her working as a professional Interior Designer!

Here is a little background of the client and process:

The Johnson’s live in a 1912 Tudor in Portland’s Overlook neighborhood. They wanted a new bathroom with modern amenities, but they wanted it to reflect their personal style and the character of the house.

They have 2 pre-teen girls to share it with, so they needed lots of counter and storage space.

The fixtures and vanity mirrors are from Restoration Hardware, and the tiles are a mix of ceramic and recycled glass. The counter top is made from Ice Stone, a recycled glass and concrete material. The flooring, not pictured is linoleum, another sustainable material in aqua.

I think the dog likes it too!

Do you love modern design with vibrant color and nature influences? If so then I think you will really like these pieces from DZINE.

“Their beautiful European furniture can be found in an airy 10,000 sq. ft. showroom in the San Francisco design district. Whitewashed walls and bare concrete floors create a neutral backdrop. Simple, transparent hangings define space. The effect is minimal, yet inviting.”

Love the varying thickness in that lavender rug.

Guest Post: Decorating with Green from Decorology

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

Spring is being a tease up here in NYC. It’ll be a lovely 64 degrees one day and then we wake up in the morning to find it’s turned 38 degrees and rainy. Needless to say lots of us are suffering colds, sleepiness, and other ailments that come with rapid weather changes. However, to keep the optimism and hope alive, I turn to light and airy interiors for some cheering up, and those with generous splashes of green seem to be best at bringing a smile to my face….

Guest Post: Featuring Gemma Comas by Mochatini

Monday, April 20th, 2009

Hey, This is Manvi from Mochatini.
Rachel is one of my fav bloggers and I am delighted to be a guest here while she is away starting her a new chapter in her life.

I started Mochatini about a year ago to journal my passion for decorating and traveling. I spend a lot of my time day dream about having several homes around the world and dividing my time decorating each of them. :-) My current obsessions include styling, photography and fixing up my 1940s home in Washington DC metro area.

Interior Spaces: Timeless Space in Sekelskifteshus

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

I just noticed that my last two posts started off with me talking about how I have been cleaning. Must be spring or something! ;) All our family and friends that are attending the wedding will be here in two weeks! So I am trying to clean up here and there and just keep up with it so when our two guests come I won’t have to do too much and get stressed out about it. I think I have enough things to stress about with the wedding coming up! Right now I just want my house to look really clean and no clutter so these images are keeping me motivated.

Whenever my mom goes on a diet she finds these magazine clippings of super models to hang up on the fridge so I guess it’s kind of like that. :)

Room by Color: Medium Green Bathrooms

Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

I feel stress free and relaxed when I am surrounded by green so I think it can be quite perfect for a bathroom. The other day I was on my feet all day and at the end of the day my legs were so sore! (I should probably get off the computer more often.) I ended up taking a bath which I hardly ever do and it really helped the pain. As I relaxed in the bathtub I was thinking to myself how much I like my green shower curtain and now I am contemplating painting the walls a medium sage color. If I was going to remodel my bathroom with green walls I would definitely go with this dark rich wood for cabinets and maybe do the shower in little green glass tiles. I like the idea of adding a little bit of a dusty pink in the towels and other small decor. Oh that sounds so pretty to me! mediumgreenbathrooms1
