Room of the Day: Tropical Home with Sand Carpeting!

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

This has got to be one of the coolest spaces ever!

charliesdesigndiary

Can you imagine how nice this would be on your feet to have a sand carpet? Not only that but it is entirely open on the sides. I can’t even imagine living in a space like this. What about theft? What about privacy? What about bugs? Could you live here?

This space makes me think of this Restaurant here on Maui called Hula Grill and they have a barefoot area where it is all sand underneath your toes. I love going there and eating their fish and chips and sashimi and taking my flip flops off. It’s a great feeling. Have you ever been to Hula Grill or been to a restaurant that did this?

Amazing and Unique Churches!

Wednesday, April 15th, 2009

If I didn’t live on Maui I might consider getting married in one of these fabulous churches! Not only is the architecture phenomenal but the photography is pretty great too. I don’t know if you could have a bad picture of these though. I would love to be able to visit and sit and stare and take in all the beauty of these gorgeous buildings. I mean really how cool would it be to get married in one of these places? You definitely wouldn’t have to put in a lot for decor. Which one is your favorite?

Interior Spaces: Oceanside in Malibu

Friday, April 10th, 2009

This beautiful home was featured in the September/October issue of Veranda and I came across it from the wonderful Brooke Giannetti from the blog Velvet and Linen. It was designed by Madeline Stuart and the Architecture was designed by Brooke’s husband Steve Giannetti.

I am in awe of the beautiful color scheme and I just love the pop of yellow gold in the horse artwork. There is such a soothing and calming feel to the space and I adore the subtle special touches like the stones under the solid wood buffet table in the dining room. This home is really quite lovely!

Some Unique Staircases

Monday, March 9th, 2009

Unfortunately I haven’t had the opportunity to design a staircase for an actual client yet. When I do I will be able to use my collection of staircase imagery for inspiration. I have collected quite a few beautiful staircase designs and so I wanted to share some really unique ones with you. Maybe I’ll get lucky and I will get a client who will want to do do something really cool and different like one of these below. Have you come across any unique staircases lately?

uniquestair4Love the idea of adding little square mirrors to the rise of the stairs. Little tiles could be really neat too!

Here is one I did get to design for a school project.  The stairs lead up to the rooftop terrace.
