Featuring: Pale & Interesting

Monday, August 31st, 2009

You may have come across this beautiful shop recently but I just had to share it if you haven’t. Lovely soft gorgeous items for the home, garden and body are all what you will find at Pale and Interesting. Here are just a few of my favorite things!

They also carry gorgeous vintage jewelry too!

Here is a little bit more info I came across on their website which I thought described their style really well:

“Pale & Interesting is a life-style shopping experience. Inside this site you will find furniture, accessories, jewellery and books all chosen or designed by Atlanta and Dave, inspired by their love of the functional, beautiful and out-of-the-ordinary. Their philosophy is all about mixing it up, teaming old with new, contrasting rough with smooth and pairing femininity with utility.”

Room of the Day: Dining Room for Unexpected Guests

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

I am usually on the fence about unmatched dining chairs and I usually like it when the armchairs on the end are different and then the dining chairs with no arms along the main area. This interior though has every chair different but you can see that there was still a lot of thought involved. Look how well the traditional portrait art goes with the different colored chairs. The balance is impeccable. It is so well put together and at the same time it isn’t. You might think that the host was dining for one and then unexpectedly 9 more people came in to join so they had to go searching throughout the house to find chairs for the guests. It’s fun to imagine the scenario. :)

So what do you think? Could you pull this off and would you ever dare implement this idea into your own home?

Featuring: New from Ankasa

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

Or at least these are new to me. If you follow my blog you probably know by now that I love Ankasa. Who doesn’t really? I think everyone and their mom would have one if they were more affordable. Browsing their site I really enjoyed looking at their products that fit with a more tropical climate and ones that fit with a cooler climate. The collections have a beautiful unifying feel to them because of the intricate craftsmanship and design. Really just stunning pieces of work. These pillows are like art to me.

They now have eco-friendly furniture. I love the ornate cord embroidery on these last two pieces. Aren’t they just exquisite?

Featuring: Cream Pot

Towards the end of our trip Ryan googled Crepe places near our Hotel and he came across this adorable little place called Cream Pot. Ryan and I absolutely love crepes and its tradition to find a crepe place whenever we travel. This was our second one that we found and ate at in our three day trip. :) As you can see in these photos this is not what you would expect to find in Waikiki and that is partly why I love it so much. The owner used a different style direction and went with a french country look rather than Tommy Bahama. I just absolutely adore all the small touches and details throughout the space.

I talked to the owner and designer of the restaurant and she was the sweetest lady. She told us that her husband and her put the adobe type tile flooring in along with plastering the walls to replicate a traditional type of building that you may have found in the french countryside.

Even their servingware is adorable!

Wakiki Gateway Hotel

Ryan and I are back and happy to be home. Reflecting back on our trip I decided that when we go back to Oahu that I want to stay in the same hotel. We ended up very pleased with the hotel that we decided to stay at in Oahu. We couldn’t afford anything fancy and since it was just a place for us to sleep we ended up concentrating on price rather than luxury. We chose a hotel called Waikiki Gateway Hotel and at $65.00/night we just couldn’t say no. We weren’t expecting much so when we walked into this posh modern hotel with beautiful materials we were quite taken aback. We also found out that we are literally 1 block away from the beach which made walking distance about 5 minutes to Waikiki Beach and one of the main shopping strips.

These are photos from the lobby area. I really love the dark flooring and interesting use of materials.

No ocean view but there wasn’t a hotel directly next to us either which was great! I actually liked checking out the city especially at night.

This was our Hotel room. Nothing fancy but still nice and very clean. I swear I wanted to start ripping photos out of magazines and start pinning them to this headboard. :)

Birthday Blogiday

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

Today is my birthday so I am leaving to Oahu for a little birthday blogiday for a few days.

This photo pretty much sums up how I feel at the moment. The last few days I have been trying to wrap things up before I go because I promised myself I would not work on my birthday. I am debating bringing my laptop to Oahu. It’s great for watching movies on netflix but it may be tempting to dive into work things. Hhhmmm.. I really should get away from the computer for a bit. I think my body would like it.

Hope you have a great rest of the week and I will see you next Monday!

Featuring: French Bedroom Company

Monday, August 17th, 2009

My mother just started renting an office out and so naturally she is dreaming about how it will look. While browsing for online furniture and decor she found this company called the The French Bedroom Company and she instantly fell in love and then emailed me the link. The site is full of ornate chandeliers and beautiful tables and chairs that all look like they are from the movie slides of Marie Antoinette. So dreamy and romantic!

I think I would want mine to blend in more with the flooring though so its a little more secret but the glass is pretty neat too. Which would you prefer?
