Room of the Day
Wednesday, July 15th, 2009I am the type of person that can really enjoy dark walls especially when it is done well and in the right space.
I love the contrast it can create with white thick trim and molding and I love how the designer of this dining room added white drapery to keep it light and airy. A space with dark walls should have adequate lighting and I like this look more in bedrooms and dining rooms rather than in a space where you may need more light.
The whole color scheme of this gorgeous dining room is also really beautiful. The rich dark wood with the soft yellow chairs and dark blue walls is really sophisticated and elegant. The style of this room is nice as well. It has quite a few traditional elements while still keeping it up to date and fresh looking. Wouldnt you agree?

lovely…i’ve made the mistake of having dark walls without enough light and it looked like a cave. it was a pretty cave, but a cave nonetheless!

I LOVE this room! I too am a fan of dark rooms when done right.. and this one is perfect! I love the large mirror too.. very pretty… My dining room is a chocolate brown and I was nervous about going with such a dark color. But I love it! It literally looked like we were painting melted chocolate on the walls! very fun..

I love the color of those walls! I normally shy away from anything so dark, but I do love this…

This is beautiful! Love the walls- and they seem to have a nice sheen to them. My biggest concern with dark walls is that our builders didn’t finish the drywalls as well as I wished they would have (seams, etc) and I think you need perfect walls to achieve this elegant look.
