Interior Spaces: Paper Sky Store

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

A friend of mine is thinking about opening a stationary and paper store nearby and I think it would be so exciting and fun if it happens. We have worked together on a few paper projects and she wants me to do the graphic design for the clients that come in. So of course I have been swirling ideas in my head for the interior of the space. Coincidentally my aunt who is a graphic designer recently sent a link to this blog post from The Wedding Standard. They did a full interview and provided these beautiful photos of the shop Paper Sky located in San Luis Obispo. I know I would have a blast in that store looking at all the beautiful paper and cards. My mom and I spend at least an hour in the Paper Garden every time we go and it is about half the size of this place.

I love her use of interesting things as display. If you look closely you will see a wire manequin for ribbons and an ironing board for displaying card designs. So adorable!

It has been exactly one year from my very first post on dwellings and decor! I can’t believe it has been that long. Weeks Best! June 21st-26th

Friday, June 26th, 2009

When I was picking the photos to choose for this weeks best I found that I chose several yellow interiors. Not usually a color I would go for but it must be something about it being summer and maybe there were more to choose from. I also always find myself picking out green spaces because it’s my favorite color and my house is mainly green. I also had a few interiors that have soft blues, grays and whites that I couldn’t pass up so here is a combination of all these colors. This first photo with the chairs found over at Gathering Spriggs pretty much starts the post. Enjoy!

Featuring: Tonin Casa - Modern or Classic?

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

Today I received a small and sleek pamphlet for the company called Tonin Casa. I have to say the pamphlet made me want to see more and so I decided to check out their website www.tonincasa.it. When you get to the catalogue page on the website it asks you if you want Modern or Classic. Now this wasnt an easy choice for me but I chose classic first which tells me a little something about my style preference. The first four below are found in the Classic section and the last four were found in the modern section. Which one do you prefer?

Inspiration Board: Colorful Retro Living Room

I came across this photo the other day and I was mainly inspired by the colors and fabrics which made me think it would be a great photo to design a room around.

You can see in my inspiration board that I decided to use the main color of the photo as fabric for the main pieces in the room. I liked the idea of the little red shoes as an accent piece and so I decided to go with this circular red pattern for a pillow. I think it picks up the shape of her shoes quite well. I then decided I needed another piece to pick up that sweater color and I found this lamp which picks up the light and dark aqua of the photo. I really love the shade of that lamp and I wanted to carry that look through so I went with a glass and metal round coffee table.

These are so fun for me to do and it is so nice when you find something that inspires you automatically. :)

Restaurant Color Scheme: Red & Yellow

Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009

I am currently assisting with the design of a restaurant and I have been looking in my interior image folders for some inspiration. We are working with the existing black and white tile floors and we are wanting to incorporate some reds and buttery soft yellows to the color scheme. The restaurant is fairly high end and the client wants a vintage/traditional feel to the space. Here are some interiors that I found to be the most inspirational. I like when I see them all together because it creates that mood I am looking for.

Guest Post: Tropical Style from The City Sage

Hi Dwellings and Decor readers! Anne at The City Sage here! In the wake of Rachel’s Maui wedding and my own recent Hawaiian honeymoon, I’ve been indulging in a series of Island Style posts—and I’m thrilled that Rachel’s invited me here to do some ‘Get the Look’ tropical paradise moodboards!

Natural materials bring the lush textures of the rainforest indoors. A rattan chair, a reclaimed elm sideboard, and a spiraled acacia wood floor lamp create an organic sensibility. Neutral accents like a rough-hewn frame and seahorse pillow lend their quiet personality, while the cheerful touches such as a flower rug and artisanal glass bottles let the sunshine in.

For a serene island retreat, a mosquito net is a must! A woven bedframe provides the perfect place to settle in for the evening, and a curvy bedside table boasts an airy feel. Evoke the mood of a South Seas cruise with a chest of drawers inspired by classic steamer trunks, give a nod to traditional cane webbing with the motif on a cozy cushion, and pull on a lightweight throw to protect against evening breezes. Perhaps a delicate seashell platter will guarantee dreams of the beach?

Thanks to Rachel for being such a lovely hostess, and I hope to see you all soon at The City Sage! xo Anne

Note: Anne is having a giveaway this week so please check it out!

Room of the Day: Southern Kitchen

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

I recently found this adorable and cozy kitchen from Southern Accents Magazine and I just fell in love with all of the special touches. They really paid attention to the small details in this space. A few things that I absolutely adore is that plaid yellow skirt with pom poms for below the sink and that cabinetry is to die for! I also love how they layed out the tile around the faucet.

It is actually the mudroom entrance and it serves as a place to drop packages and a spot for arranging flowers. Wouldn’t we all love a designated area to arrange flowers!
