What would you do to make this room better?

Sunday, March 1st, 2009

I will admit, I was quite intrigued by this bedroom from Desire to Inspire last week. The image with just the headboard is pretty cool. White bedding; good, green walls; nice, pink striped bench; okay. I love the headboard and that floral design would not be my first pick but it’s pretty neat. Then you see the entire bedroom and whoa! It feels like a circus to me. Working with the first image how would you design the rest of the space to make it less overwhelming?

Here are my thoughts: I would get rid of the shag green carpet and put in hardwood flooring and I think I would reupholster that bench and make it a solid pink or even green like the walls. I would add white drapery with maybe a subtle pink or green stitching down along the edges. I would also change out the very traditional gold and ornate furniture and add something a little more modern probably in a white.

I’d paint the wall white and replace the rug with whitewashed hardwood floors. Boring I know. ;)

    seriously! what a cool room!
i agree about the shag carpet…hardwood would be beautiful.
i actually like the little bench in pink/white stripe, i think it adds charm.
i’m not sure about the curtains. i like them but i’m not sold on them for this room.
it’s really an interesting space and i loooove that headboard. :)

hmmmp, i don’ t know what to say.
i like the first image, but that green carpet would have to go. not really into shag carpet and really not mint green shag carpet. not into the drapes either, i would take off the border and pull back with really cool tights in pink. oh i don’t know, this room makes me speachless actually.

hmmm…i think i would tackle the room by identifying the things i like: the bed, the bench, the other furniture (though a lucite chair would be funky too). i think i like the drapes too but it’s hard to tell against the dark green wall.

the carpet? ugh! and i think i’d tone down the wall paint—maybe do a TRIM that color ?

Although I love that dark green on the walls, it is too strong with the rest of the elements. To make it work , I would paint the trim on the headboard, the same black lacquer as the lamp shade, and possibly the wood on the bench too, and keep the pink stripes.
Yes, the mint shag needs to go away, as well as the desk chair. They are too soft and in the middle of the road; causing confusion.
Be bold and then hold on.
    Green-pink-white-black-done.
    Love the curtains!
What a whimsy…an ice cream parlor and an English pub in one..wild. That deep green is my new favorite.

I too, would paint the walls white. The headboard against the green walls is too much for me. Also, like others mentioned - I think hardwood floors would be nice…
