And guess what? I received negative comments from people who didn’t know the entire story but made their own assumptions anyway. Rebecca, a writer for Apartment Therapy in LA emailed me last week about getting a Room in a Book. She is very friendly and said she would feature it on Apartment Therapy. I of course felt some hesitation because I knew that there would be people who would leave negative comments because that is how Apartment Therapy is. I wrote a blog post about this awhile ago and you can see it HERE. Rebecca only needed a few changes so I agreed to do it for no fee because free advertising is good right? The commenters assumed that I charged $450 for the design but I would not have charged that much for just a few changes.
You can read about the process on Rebecca’s post and you can view the entire book I put together for her HERE.
Here were some of my suggestions from the book:
1. Drapery: I felt the space needed some color other than white on the walls and since you cannot paint or add wallpaper I would suggest adding drapery in a blue gray color similar to your existing pillows for a nice balance.
2. Shelving: I like the whole black and white scheme and I would carry it through to your shelving by painting them black to match the other furniture.
3. Pillows: I feel like the black and white pillows somewhat competes with the zebra stools and so I would keep the two gray pillows and add two white pillows to keep it clean.
4. Artwork: I think there needs to be a poster in a black and white print that would work nicely with your large existing poster. I think it will create that balance you are looking for.
5. Side Tables: I think having two side tables will make the sofa feel more in its place and also provide more storage and a place to set things down. The ones that I have chosen are 15” wide so they should fit nicely.
