Before & After: My Side Table

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

I have been trying to get my living room looking pretty because I want it to look nice when we have guests over during the wedding. I have been doing small things here and there and this weekend I decided to do one of those big things. I painted my side table a dark chocolate brown to match the coffee table and frames in my living room. A friend of ours gave us this table awhile back and it’s not the most attractive side table but it is solid hardwood and it provides a lot of storage. I have been looking for a side table to replace it but all of our money is going to the wedding right now so I decided to just paint it.

I have never painted furniture before so I had to do some research before I purchased the paint. I searched “what type of paint is best for painting wood furniture” and I landed on a yahoo answers page. They suggested using an oil enamel and an oil primer. I was fortunate enough to have a very smart salesperson and she gave me some great suggestions like what type of brush to use and so forth. It was actually not that much work to do this and it saved me so much money. I am wanting to start a before and after section on this blog so if you have any that you would like to share please email me photos I can post.

    Hi!

Thank you for your comment on my blog. You are more than welcome to use my before and after shots on yours :)

You did a great job with this side table. I am a huge fan of reworking existing furniture rather than buying new. Well done.
