Diva Mogul

The blog about business and entrepreneurship

Browsing in News

This past November, I said goodbye to my dear readers and wished everyone the best of luck here at Twolia. But today I’m here and very proud to announce that Diva Mogul is BACK!

Yes, I’ll be here at Twolia, once again, blogging 3 times a week. For now, expect to hear from me every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday about business & entrepreneurship.

Over the next few months, you’ll notice the blogs here at Twolia shifting more towards a female musician and artist focus. Diva Mogul fits into the new mix because it’s about business and enterprising women.

Is there anything pertaining to business or entrepreneurship that you would like to know? Any special topics you’d like me to cover here at Diva Mogul? Leave a comment or send an email…

It’s great to be back! See you Wednesday…

Right now I’m giving thanks to all of you.

Thanks for giving me this great space to allow my creative juices to flow, voice what’s on my insanely active mind, and tell you what’s up in the business world.

Blogging with Twolia has been one heck of a ride.

I’ve had a great time being a part of Twolia during the continual growth. I’ve been here as new bloggers were brought onboard to unleash their sweet fury, share their fashion fetishes, and delve into TMI regarding not-so-savory relationships and savvy celebrity gossip among other topics.  Now there’s also a store, videos, music, and astrology reports.

Growth sweet growth.

But, as nothing is permanent in life, with growth comes inevitable change. My life is busy these days and so is business. Because of this, I have found myself taking a look at la dolce vita and thinking about my own growth and changes.

Some things in my life will stay very much the way they are while other things, naturally, will have to go.

Among some of these changes, I have decided, is to bid farewell to my Diva Mogul blogging days here at Twolia.

I’ve had fun being a part of the blogging team and virtually meeting so many magnificent fellow Diva Moguls.

Know that this isn’t the end of me! I’ll be lurking around Twolia from time to time, reading and commenting or listening to the latest tunes from groovy chicks like you.

Take all this as further proof that…You can take the girl out of Twolia, but you can’t take the Twolia out of the girl!

You can also keep in touch with me at EntrepreneurGoddess.com. My contact information is on that site, so take note. And, as usual, you can follow me on Twitter @egoddess. ;-)

[Cue the Sound of Music] So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen good-bye…

Wishing you success in business and in life,

Katie :-)

Unless you’re a giant company or have lots of funding for a fancy web designer, marketing, and kick-butt SEO…

Why not use self-hosted Wordpress to build your business website?

Wordpress has everything you need– thousands of free templates (although I recommend paying for a premium theme), built-in SEO,  plugins, and ease-of-use. Most people think of Wordpress as being a bloggers-only platform, but that’s simply not true anymore. Wordpress actually has both blog and static pages, the perfect combination for your social media needs.

If you’re not into figuring out Wordpress on your own, it’s easy to find someone who can install a theme for a reasonable price. I’d recommend customizing the theme with your own banner and jazzing up the pages with stock photos.

Have you seen the Laura Ling and Euna Lee video on Current TV?

Ling and Lee, the journalists who were released from a North Korean prison last month thanks in part to former President Bill Clinton (come on, you know you secretly snickered inside when you read Clinton was flying home on a private jet with two Asian ladies), have finally appeared on video and written a statement.

The highlights:

  • They’re so happy to be back home (cue Wizard of Oz music)
  • They can’t wait to share their stories, in time, but for now they are focusing on living their “normal” lives (this is code for: we’re waiting to see who offers us the most money for book and film rights)
  • They don’t want their own story to overshadow the critical plight of the desperate defectors (The understatement of the year because I think it already has. Sometimes it takes unfortunate events like their arrest for people on this side of the world to grasp what’s happening on the other side of the world. More people will pay attention! So sad but so true.)

Should the city of Los Angeles, already having a $500 million deficit, foot the multi-million dollar bill brought on by Michael Jackson’s memorial service?

The security and logistical support alone will cost the City of Los Angeles $4 million.

On and off duty police, top-notch security techniques, as well as barricades are needed to cordon of a section of the city around the Staples Center in order to manage the 1 million people expected to show up without tickets.  It’s estimated only 50,000 showed, but still, better be safe than sorry.

Local businesses are seeing a spike in business. Hotels normally at 60% capacity are at 80%, local restaurants are accommodating the hungry bellies, $12 parking spots are going for $30, and Michael Jackson merchandise is flying off the shelves. A pleasant boost for the local economy.

Los Angeles City Councilman Dennis Zine is asking AEG, the producers of the televised memorial service, to foot the $4 million bill.

Who should foot the multi-million dollar bill brought on by Michael Jackson’s memorial service?

WARNING: Nobody is left out of the game today…

Blood Sucking Parasite from A BEE MOVIE

Looks like there will be fewer blood sucking parasites in the world to bill us at $500 an hour and then have the audacity to charge extra for staples.

RV PARADISE ON EARTH

RV PARADISE ON EARTH

Americans prefer to stay closer to home due to “shocking gas prices” rather than get rid of their gas guzzling RVs.

Perhaps animals are NOT the main contributors to global warming after all? We’ll just blame it on the Jonses and everyone trying to keep up with them.

It’s only a matter of time before our “friendly neighbors” at the local KOA are all lawyers…

May Bernard Madoff never again see the light of day as he rots for the rest of his lifetime in prison hell.

But, above all, let him finally use his last days in prison to reflect, contemplate, and actually feel the pain he has caused for thousands throughout the world.

Remorse is better late than never.

What will Madoff’s life look like in prison? According to ex-com Kiran Chetry, it won’t be pretty and he most likely won’t be too popular. Could that be taken as a positive thing? (hehehe) ;-)

Another corporate criminal bites the dust. Let’s smoke the rest out of their holes. Madoff is only the beginning.

To learn more about Madoff’s stay in prison, watch this CNN interview with Chetry.

Why word of mouth is still the best form of marketing

Don’t think word-of-mouth matters when it comes to online marketing? Think again. A recent study shows more than 53% of online traffic comes from recommendations and referrals. Read more to find out more about spreading the word online >

Los Angeles has a new top industry

Who provides the largest number of jobs in Los Angeles County? Nope, not Steven Spielberg and the film industry. Turns out, Tourism is now L.A. County’s No. 1 job generator. This, unfortunately, comes at the expense of the large volumes of trade that move through the Port of Los Angeles on a daily basis and provide much higher wages.

Apparently, living large is not the answer.

Nebraska’s conservative attitude towards money has paid off. MainStreet.com has rated the state, financially speaking, the happiest in the United States.

The Happiness Index is based on rates of unemployment, amount of foreclosures, and non-mortgage debt. Living large, the index shows, does not amount to happiness.

Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, and Hawaii are also considered among the happiest places in America. Rhode Island, California (*see below), Nevada, Florida & Oregon were rated the lowest due to the culture of people living beyond their means.

*Think: luxury vehicles, heavily mortgaged mansions, silicon, and The (not so) Real Housewives of Orange County. Watch them spend more money in an attempt to catch up!  ;-)

General Motors has been on a downward spiral for decades and it came as no surprise when they declared bankruptcy.

What have been a few of General Motors main issues/failures (among many more)?

LEADERSHIP FAILURE. Executives & investors have come through the company like revolving doors for the past 25 years. Billionaires and well-experienced executives alike have tried to invigorate the company and shake things up at the top without luck.

THE HUMMER. General Motors is partly responsible for killing the electric car. Production was replaced with the Hummer, an impractical gas guzzling car nobody needs (not to mention hideous). This lack of foresight became apparent when gas prices spiked and sales plummeted.

CORPORATE CULTURE. In a Senate hearing yesterday, Ron Bloom, an adviser on the auto task force, also discussed the need for G.M. to break “longstanding habits that have made the company, with its bloated structure, lose a step to more nimble competitors.” Top executive in the 1980s, Elmer W. Johnson, stated, “Our culture discourages open, frank debate among G.M. executives in the pursuit of problem resolution.”

With internal issues just as bad as the cars they make, it’ll be interesting to see how things shake up and out with General Motors. I wish the United States and Fiat the best of reviving the monster.
