Beauty Rant: Do your antidepressents make you look old????
Good lord, if it’s not one thing it’s another (or your mother, hee hee….)! I’m not gonna lie my beauties….things have not been sunny here in my household for the last few months…..Blame it on weather, hormones or the fact that my house is in chaos (water leak, don’t ask…) but I just need some relief……And since I have OCD tendencies my brain seems to marinate on whatever the topic may be (my depression, my skin, finances…etc, etc).
And now that I am on my way to the mid-thirties….the age obsession has kicked in bigtime!! I fully believe that my body is going through “ageing spurts” just like kids do “growth spurts”…..
Well my obsession with aging has hit an all-time new high after reading this humdinger of an article, “Twins and Aging: How to not look OLD”…..the study compared the twins lifestyles and how it related to their aging….and shockingly revealed that….
Finally — and this was the cruelest finding — those who had taken antidepressants also looked older than their twins who hadn’t. In other words, if the misery of your divorce doesn’t age you, your attempt to treat it with Prozac might. Guyuron and his colleagues believe this unjust fact has something to do with the drooping relaxation of facial muscles that antidepressants can cause.
Fabulous. What’s an incredibly vain person (who has taken a steady dose of antidepressants since she was 15) supposed to do? Seriously, on a good day I would just poo-poo it….I mean, I don’t want to look younger “per” “se”…just pretty and healthy (no matter what my age).
Right now though, I just need relief from the darkness…and at this point if a pill can pull me through, I’m just going to have to deal with it….Now WORK you stupid Wellbutrin!!!
Thanks for letting me rant my beauties……

Wait….wait. Did these twins go thru the same identical experiences in life? Because if they didn’t, then how in the world could they have the same reactions to things? Clearly, if things are where an anti-depressant is needed, then things are def more stressful to people than those who are not prescribed meds. (Is that making sense? I am def not slamming, just making a comparison). So, wouldn’t it beg that people who are more stressed might appear older? I would attribute it more to the environmently factors of stress than the meds used to deal with them. Looking like someone is not going to cause people to react the same way, i don’t care how their genetic makeup is, imo, of course.
Again, I don’t have the piece of paper on the wall, but it seems like that is what would boil this down to, but I could be off base.

Yeah, I totally get what you are saying and agree….it’s just the “slack” muscle thing (and my sagging under eye troughs) that freak me out…lol!
Being in the “beauty biz” (and just living in our age-obsessed culture) really makes it hard sometimes to keep it all in perspective. At this point I just want to feel happy again….it’s amazing what a true smile and joy can do for your face!

You know I am all about the “happy” - and I truly think that once we can get to the true smile and joy phase, really, we are so much better at accepting the other things. At least, that is in my case - I feel 1000% percent diff about myself and have so much more happiness now that I found the right script for me. I seriously think that we have to do/take what is nescessary, without stigma, and the rest will come along. I really really do.
*big huge hug and as many dimpled smiles as you can handle from up here* mwah!
