War on Acne: Renee Rouleau Anti-Cyst Treatment….

( this is how I feel about cystic acne)…..

Happy Saturday my beauties…….I’ve just got to get this off my chest! After talking with my beauty blogging “mentor”, Lianne over at The Makeup Girl (check out her NEW site…girl is a technological genius, I tell you). We both were laminating about our hormonal cystic acne…….yet again…so I just had to tell her about my latest weapon to “bring ‘em down”, Renee Rouleau’s Anti-Cyst Treatment ($38).

This lactic acid based gel really goes in there and gets deep like nothing I have ever tried (even stupid Duac). It’s nice to your skin and won’t aggravate an already VERY aggravating situation.

I’m just sayin’………….

Be Beautiful Ya’ll.

I just found your blog and really enjoy it. Thank you for everything you’ve posted.
Just a few things I was wondering:
    1) Did you decide to go back on Accutane? I was on that as a teen and OMG, I’d never do it again. The red-faced, achy joints, and peeling skin was enough for one time.
Instead of accutane, in order to control your cystic acne, have you ever though about using natural hormone control? I’m talking about natural hormone replacement therapy. I’m on it b/c my ovaries shut down (I’m only 29), and it’s made a big difference in breakouts. Only if my progesterone dose is too high (I control it with creams), will I break out. Other than that, I’m pimple free when my doses are correct.
    2) I’m a former cystic acne person too and now I’m struggling with large pores, blackhead on my nose, and some old scars. Do you recommend anything that doesn’t cost $195 a pop? (I looked at the Ossential stuff and just cant dish that out). I use 10% glycolic acid at night, 5% salicylic acid pads during the day and a mattifier to keep the oil down.
I’m a nutrition nut, but now need to focus on my skin. Thank you!

Are you kidding me Cassandra! I talked to my derm about HRT for my acne and she said “well, you’ll be my guinea pig for that”. I have TOTALLY been thinking of it…problem is the doc that I want to see for it won’t take insurance…so more money out the door….

You’ve GOT to tell me what you use and where you went. I know something is going on with my hormones because I get these nasty black hairs around the same time I breakout…..and PMS from hell basically….just lovely. But of course my tests from my regular MD came back “within normal”….

I don’t think I will be doing Accutane again…I’ve just heard too many things from people around me about permanent dry skin/lips, etc….It killed me as a kid and I just can’t afford to feel like crap all the time right now with the kids/house/work and all of it.

YES my face bothers me but I did manage to get my hands on a Clarisonic. face brush….I hear AMAZING things about it esp. with blackheads, etc….so I will wait on the ‘Tane till I get a few weeks of that bad boy under my belt.

The best thing I have found for blackheads around the nose area is Persagel by Clean & Clear…I used to get it as a prescription as a kid and now it’s over the counter, cheap and effective…it’s 10% Benzoyl Peroxide…really load up the nose area and sleep in it and you will be amazed…..And then there’s always good old Retin-A….cheap with a prescription and kind of my panacea…

I’m a food nut too (in a different way from you probably…)! I’m actually in OA….but haven’t had sugar or flour for 3 years!!! It pisses me off to no end that my skin won’t clear up………..esp. with all the supplements and yoga, etc.

BUT I really want to know about your natural hormone stuff…I should probably email you directly!!!!

Thanks so much for reading and let’s talk soon…..

    Hey Josi,
It doesn’t surprise me that a conventional doctor would say that about bHRT (bioidentical HRT), because they’d rather just prescribe birth control made from horses urine or gawd knows what other unnatural chemicals. Either way, I’ve been very happy with it and I am glad I’m on it. I wasn’t anyone to put exogenous hormones in my body, but hey, when you don’t produce any estrogen naturally, something has got to be done. In turn, my skin was much happier. The protocol I’m on is the Wiley Protocol (www.thewileyprotocol.com) and the site is great to learn more.

For skin stuff: yep, I use the 10% BP too just at night on actual pimples. My actual regime is: Avon Porefection Clay Cleanser, followed by 5% SA pads, then rinse and use Bioelements toner. No moisturizer (I have oily skin) and then Dermelect mattifier/pore minimizer (great stuff). Then, light powder makeup if I go out. At night, use the 10% GA, and the 10% BP as needed. During the week I use masks such as Pevonia Peeling creme (doesn’t really peel at all - just got it from skinstore.com) followed by a Bentonite clay mask (Rachel Perry for example). Anyhow, I probably don’t do what I should for my face and really need to… large pores are driving me nuts. Anything you recommend would be great based on your awesome experiences.

Nutrition: A high quality salmon oil, Gamma E (a better form of Vit E) and a Greens/Fruits/Grasses drink are essential for nice skin. Not sure if you take those, but I can recommed good ones if you’d like.

Then, of course, no-no flour and sugar. It’s hard in our society, but that’s great you don’t eat those. Not many can say the same :)

    Thank you!

  4. Josi Says:

Well honey….I know you are oily but if you don’t give your skin ANY hydration than you are going to send your pores into oil OVERDRIVE…the more you strip, the more they make……does the Dermelect have any hydration?

And what about sunscreen? Nothing stretches out the pores more than the sun…they tighten at first but then in a few weeks BAM you won’t like what you see.

I REALLY recommend a oil free moisturizer w/ sunscreen for your regime…I LOVE Neutrogena Healthy Defense SPF 45 every am. It is great for oily skin (and really isn’t enough for me in the winter when I’m drier)…but I know your skin would probably dig it.

I notice waay more brown spots if I don’t use the Healthy Defense…(and you know I have tried practically everything….)

I do do a 3-6-9 oil supplement as well as Glucosamine (studies show that it is the only sup that actually helps with skin tone)…..and then a great drink by EBoost…..I would like a good GREEN drink that is SF that I can tolerate…the only ones I’ve tried taste NASTY.

I am going to that doctor to get my hormones tested for possible BHT…..God our health system is in such sad shape, we are like cattle!!! But I guess (like anything in life) it’s up to us to take charge of our health.

BTW I went to your site/blog…you are such a cute girl!!! And talk about muscle tone? DAMN…..

  5. Josi Says:

Oh and try the BP on your nose at night for blackheads….it works when I do it!!!! You’ll go to bed looking like you dipped your nose in whipped cream but who give a crap….

  6. Cassandra Says:

    Hey Again!

Thank you for the great suggestions! You rock! I’ve been skeptical about moisturizing b/c my face has so much oil on it already. But, I just purchased Bioelements Oil Control Sleepwear, which has night rejuvinators and won’t overmoisturize (http://www.bioelements.com/oil-control-sleepwear-products-395.php?page_id=155) I like this line of prpducts, so just went with it on a wim.

I will try a moisturizer during the day too on really dry days (like today…ugh); and thank you for that suggestion. I think the Dermelect has moisturizers too acutally, because when I wear it, I don’t over-oil. But, I’m not sure… I’m such a newbie when it comes to skin care… that’s why I contacted you :) But, I’ll try your suggestion.

Good job on the skin supplements! Antioxidants help too (to fight inner free radical damage); that’s why I rec’d the Gamma E - new research is coming out on it that I’ve had the pleasure of learning about.

For a greens drink, yes, sugar free definitely is the way to go. Send me an email and I’ll send you a few good links for these products that don’t taste nasty and don’t have anything you don’t need (also a place where you can buy online easily too). (don’t want to clog up your comments section too much)

True, our health care is really horrible. To get anything done, you have to fight really hard for it. For ex, many women are walking around with subclinical hypothyroidism making it very hard for them to lose weight or feel happy. But, doctors ignore it completely (I had a well-know endocrinologist tell me this, and he was miffed by it).

Anyways, we have to talk our own health and skin care in our hands. We can’t expect antibiotics etc to always be the answer, even though drug companies want us to believe it. :)

Thanks again! And thanks for checking out my site!

And, I laughed out loud when I read your whipped cream comment. That’s dead sexy…. hahahah!!!

I just ordered the Renee Rouleau cyst treatment, for the new monster that cropped up on my cheek! Will let you know what I think.

How’s the Clarisonic working out? Mine has been sitting in the bathroom closet for a few weeks now. I’m debating whether or not I should give it another go or just sell it on ebay…

  8. Josi Says:

I haven’t gotten it in the mail yet…I”m dyin ova’heya!!!!
    Hope the RR works…….

  9. Josi Says:

BTW..went a moms night out and she had THE best skin…Clarisonic and uses TNS (I’ll have to get that stuff to review). And did you read Beauty Brains? You’ve got to commit for at least a month……..start a new habit (or sell it and go buy jeans…)!

  10. Lulu Says:

haha, i could use a new pair of jeans! i did use it for about 6 weeks and didn’t notice an improvement other than softer skin (no reduction in blackheads or breakouts). oh well, on to the next thing!

  11. Marie Says:

What is TNS? Have you tried to go for 3 days only eating apples, or grapes and drinking water and green tea as a way to detox? Accompanied that with fleet enema treatment every night or a colonic at the end of the 3 days…You should see a huge improvment in your skin!

Acne is usually caused by hormone imbalance, and most likely, candidas infection…In our society where every food source is processed, adult acne and other ailment are our culprit…You don’t see adult in developing countries with acne!

To improve current skin imperfections, you should go on ebay and buy a glycolic peel kit ( professional one) with the neutralizer and do a peel every week for 6 weeks, and once a month after that. It will clear up blackheads, breakouts, and diminish acne scars. You can get a ful kit for around $25, and it should last you for 6 months.

  12. Josi Says:

You know Marie..I’ve looked into the at home peels a bit, but not enough to feel confident about it…..I geuss I’m still wounded from years of frying my hair at home by myself, god forbid I fry my face!!! What EXACT peel do you use?
The TNS is a product I’ve heard about..I think I will probably write a post about it soon so stay tuned….
I never thought about Candida…but that wouldn’t suprise me..I’ve done the treatment on my son with great results….couldn’t hurt.

I was in the Accutane study in the early 80s and although Accutane helped reduce the amount of cysts I got, I’m far from sure that all these years later my chronic migraines aren’t due to having taken that drug. Everyone considering trying Accutane please take into consideration that there can be lifelong consequences.

  16. Josi Says:

You must have read my mind…I’ve been re-thinking doing another course of the “Tane since my skin has been so bad these last few weeks…..But then the cautious side of me says..NO WAY…tough it out J!
