Oscar Beauty: Maggie Gyllenhaal (and NEWNESS from Covergirl)…

March 10th, 2010

2010-03-07-97515141I thought it was great to see Maggie Gyllenhaal take a risk this year on the red carpet with her fashion-forward Dries Van Noten gown and mix of warm/cool eyes and cheeks care of Cover Girl celeb makeup artist Molly Stern.  Mixing a warm eye shade with a pale cool lip will bring out blue eyes like no other!

First, Molly prepped Maggie’s skin with a NEW Cover Girl & Olay Simply Ageless Serum Primer that will be released in July (stay tuned for reviews).

lm_2c13xx_280Molly set her foundation with La Mer The Treatment Powder Foundation SPF 15 ($95)… I have heard SO many amazing things about this expensive foundation, so you better leave a comment if you’re in on it my beauties!

200Maggie’s warm eye was achieved using a combo of Cover Girl Smoky Shadow Blast in Bronze Fire (<$9) , NARS Soft Touch Shadow Pencil in Scorpios ($24) and Shu Uemura Pressed Shadows # 860 and #810 ($20).

2001Molly highlighted Maggie’s great cheek bones with Cover Girl & Olay Simply Ageless Sculpting Blush in Rich Cinnamon (<$11) followed by a dusting of NARS Dolce Vita Powder Blush ($24).

p2865_heroMaggie’s lip look was created with NARS Lipstick in Schiap ($24).

So there you have it my beauties…I love nothing more than a mix of high/low and leave it to Maggie and Molly to achieve it!

Beauty TV: Jessica Simpson’s Price of Beauty….

March 8th, 2010

*Jan 15 - 00:10*

Don’t forget to set your Tivo for March 15th @ 10pm on VH1 for Jessica Simpson’s Price of Beauty. Watch Jess and her favorite flunkies  jaunt around the globe checking out what it means to be “beautiful” in other cultures. And considering all the flack that poor girl gets in the press for her clothes/hair/makeup, I’m looking forward to hearing what she has to say.

And did you read the John Mayer RollingStone interview? He really IS all douche bag.

Anything else on the tube float your boat lately? Do tell…my Season Pass is running low.

Oscar Beauty: Why YOU need Hi-Def….

March 8th, 2010

oscar_arrivals_007_wenn5440172So did you watch last night? Sandra Bullock won hands down (on all fronts) for me with her classic red lip and stunning pink cheeks. While her makeup may have not been exactly innovative, there’s something to be said for Old School glamour..no?

But MY favorite part of the evening was BEFORE the shows…watching the stars walk the red carpet…sans the million dollar lighting and fancy camera lens.  I FINALLY get what Hi-Def is all about. It was so great to see what the stars REALLY looked like, wrinkles and age spots and all. And the best part? They didn’t look “worse” they just looked “real”….a breath of fresh air for all of us who dare to compare!

Latisse VS Revitalash: The Results…

March 5th, 2010

latisse_kit

Ah, the thrill is gone. As some of you already know, I began my Latisse journey sometime ago. Latisse gave me the most AMAZING lashes EVER….it was pretty thrilling. Fun to put on my mascara everyday and hear again and again, “Are those REAL?”! But, Latisse is a chunk of change (around $120 for 1 month supply). EVEN though I did find ways to save, I wanted to make the switch to Revitalash (which is around $120 for a 3 month supply). Revitalash also doesn’t require a prescription so I wanted to see if it would help me maintain my amazing Latisse lashes….

revitalash

Well it didn’t…and I’m sad to say my lashes are back to their original glory…but now I have milia all along my lashline! It seems applying the product everyday wast too much for my dear pores to handle…’Cause you know I need another bump on my face to obsess over, right?

But I’m not giving up yet. I’ve  heard that Revitalash takes awhile longer to get results, so I will keep you posted.

Have you tried any other lash treatments with great results? Do tell….

Beauty Rant: Bangs VS Botox

March 3rd, 2010

botoxSo I’ve got a derm appt. next week. As some of you know, I swore off the ‘Tox after having an uneven result (before my touch-up) and resulting anxiety attacks about it. But here we are…..6 months later and 6 new wrinkles later (not really, well kind of), and I just find myself on the fence.

My rationalization is that since I still suffer from hormonal acne at 34, I CAN control my forehead wrinkles..(and the Botox does help with forhead acne as well…something about normalizing the sebaceous glands). And let’s face it, stopping the aging clock (no matter how minor) is totally INTOXICATING. Especially when you see your friends fresh faced from their latest visit with the needle (and NO, Botox does not hurt. Tiny, tiny needle)…..

Plus, I barely get any (maybe 15 units max…usual is 25+) so it’s something I can bankroll with even my measly income.  And things in my life have just been rough lately, and it’s a nice little treat to not show that on your face if you don’t have to, ya know?

If you get a minute, I’d love to hear your take!

Beauty Review: Solerra Instant Bronze Sunless Tanning Mitt

March 3rd, 2010

204-60001-00Seriously, I gotta get one of these lamps. I don’t know about you, but the rain has been kicking my ass this winter so I’ll fake it ’till I make it. Since the one unhealthy vice I gave up long ago was the electric beach, I’m always down for trying out new ways to get my glow on sans UV rays. The latest product I got to test drive was the Solerra Instant Bronze Tanning Mitt ($24 for a 4-pack).

17bronze3unreal3withmittI’m all about avoiding the “my hands went to the Bahama’s and left my arms behind”  self-tanner dilemma (paging Lindsay Lohan!) and Solerra’s Sunless Tanning Mitt did the trick. This amazing formula dried in 2 seconds flat and the scent was actually bearable. Solerra delivered beautiful, consistent color and the application could NOT be easier! Color me totally devoted.

Just make sure you apply light pressure on the feet (mine were all Lindsay Lohan…in this case she FORGOT her feet) and make sure the scissors you use to open the package are super sharp (you cut the mitt opening as you cut open the package).

What’s your latest Sunless Tanning coup? Do tell….

Share the LOVE: Dr. Perricone Tinted Moisturizer WINNER……

March 3rd, 2010

chickendoasisaySo yeah, I SAID I would post the winner on Monday. It’s Wednesday (in case you didn’t notice). So my inadequacy aside, the winner of my Dr. Perricone Tinted Moisturizer is (drum-roll please)….Cuz Erin whose Spring Beauty Routine includes,

“I, too, go to tinted moisturizer and switch my Studio Fix to darker shade. Most importantly, I stock up on Clean n Clear blotting papers!”

Even though Cuz Erin is indeed my Dear Cousin, I promise you beauties that the drawing is indeed fair. (Imagine my technical prowess as I write each name on a slip of paper and draw one from a paper bag). As you know, my skill is actually applying product, obsessing over it and sharing that obsession. Not the computer!

Thanks to all who entered and for reading my madness. Please stay tuned for more chances to win FREE beauty booty.
